Theater
The Peter Jones Gallery theater came into being to fill the need of the Black Forest Theater Company for performance space. Over many years, and several theater companies later, the space has evolved through the generosity and mutual need of those who use it into a fully functioning black box theater. The space is perfect for live performance or film screenings.
The capacity of the theater is about 30-40 people. There are moveable flats, some stage lights and lighting board, a sound system, and three rows of theater seating. The stage area is about 25ft by 15ft, depending on the arrangement of the flats. The theater also has available a 16mm projector and a video projector which can be rented for a small "lightbulb fund" fee.
We are happy to offer discounts on the rental of the space if you can offer something else (labor, specialized knoweldge) which will create value in the space.
Please contact Masha Kore if you are interested in renting the space for rehearsal, performance, or film screening.

The University of Chicago ...birthplace of The Bomb...seeding ground for Reaganomics...
Gray City. The walls are gray, the sky is gray, even the faces of the students are gray. And in every ivy shadowed nook and cranny of the Gray City quads, lording over the pervasive, washed-out absence of clear-cut black and white, are the infamous concrete gargoyles. They're everywhere. And they're laughing.
What's so funny?

Walkabout Theater Company presents the world premiere of “Impossible Cities: A Utopian Experiment,” a multi-disciplinary presentation exploring the concept of Utopia through original performance works, visual art and live music.
The gallery exhibit begins at 7:30 PM , followed by a theatrical performance at 8 PM , with live music concluding the event on Fri./Sat.
At “Impossible Cities,” five theater artists will premiere original performances depicting real-life Utopian visionaries (including Mormon founder Joseph Smith, architect and Arcosanti community creator Paolo Soleri, and the Amana Society of Iowa ) through performance art, physical theater, monologue and cooking demonstration. A vegetable puppet show, a sales pitch and a feverish dance all figure into a series of meditative and comical glimpses of perfect worlds as seen through the eyes of dreamers, schemers and mystics.
The diversity of approaches suggests the myriad ways humans have crafted a vision of a perfect world. These colorful stories illuminate the human capacity to dream as well as the real-world consequences of attempting Utopia.
The event will last approximately 100 minutes, with 70 minutes of theater followed by a half hour of live music in gallery space filled with Utopian artwork.
